Santa Monica Pier in Los Angeles
The famous Santa Monica Pier in Los Angeles has more than 100 years of history. Based on my experience, every big city near the ocean or large lake of America has a similar place. For example, New York has a beach of the Coney Island, Chicago has the Navy Pier. There are shops, restaurants and cafes. In summer, the Santa Monica Pier is the venue for music concerts at the Twilling Concert Santa Monica. But the main thing that attracts tourists to this pier it's a beautiful sandy beach. Yes, the Pacific Ocean is very cold and difficult to swim in it. But when you get to Santa Monica, you will understand that wishing to swim are enough. There are sunbathers under incredible Californian sun even more...
Also an amusement park called Pacific is located on the Santa Monica Pier. It has the unique Ferris wheel with solar-powered because it is only one in the world. The height of the wheel is 40 meters (131 feet), which makes it possible to see better views of Santa Monica. 160 thousand LED lights on the Ferris wheel provide stunning night view. Also the amusement park has rides for all ages. So a lot of people visit this place with their families. There is the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium near the park.
Another feature of the Santa Monica Pier is a sign of «Route 66». It's the end point of the famous highway, which was only able to stop by the ocean. This highway is called the mother of American roads. After all, this road has seriously affected the development of the economy and social life in America. The «Route 66» connects Chicago and Los Angeles. Its length is nearly 4000 kilometers (2500 miles). There was this famous road in 1926. Then, many Americans began to appear private cars and people want to travel. During the Great Depression, the «Route 66» was the trail of hope for many Americans who went to California in search of a better life. For them, the CA signified happiness :)
