Mother's Day and International Day of Families 2017

Americans celebrate Mother's Day 2017 on May 14 (second Sunday in May), and on May 15 the whole world celebrates the International Day of Families. I decided to combine congratulations and information about these holidays in one post, since both dates and themes are similar )))

And now a short information about each of the holidays.

Mother's Day is an international holiday of mothers who celebrates every second Sunday in May in many countries of the world, but it is especially popular in the USA. On this day Americans congratulate and give gifts to mothers and pregnant women. They give flowers mainly, therefore, American supermarkets and flower shops are full of bouquets of all kinds and colors these days.

How did Mother's Day come about? The history of the holiday goes back to the 17th century, then people celebrated Mother's Sunday. Officially, this holiday appeared in America only at the beginning of the 20th century. In 1907, an American Anna Jarvis from Philadelphia wrote letters to the state authorities and suggested in them to establish a Mother's Day. In 1910, Virginia recognized the second Sunday in May as the official holiday. In 1914, US President Woodrow Wilson declared this holiday national.

History of the Day of Families. It has been celebrated since 1993. Then, the General Assembly of the United Nations established this holiday. The United Nations decided, with the help of this Day, to remind people of the value of the family. Family Day has not yet managed to develop traditions, since, it's just a young celebration.
